Our mission is to improve the lives of young homeless children in Massachusetts and help their families succeed by providing high-quality early education, opportunities for play, and comprehensive family support services. To support our mission, we also advocate on behalf of young children, train educators and human services providers, and provide research on the impact of early education on homeless children.
The Playspace Programs, with the Western Region office located in West Springfield, creates and installs Playspaces inside of family homeless shelters in Western, MA (including Springfield, Holyoke, Northampton, Amherst, Greenfield and Pittsfield) Playspaces are kid friendly, developmentally appropriate spaces for the children living in the shelters. We then recruit, train, and place community volunteers in these Playspaces to provide fun, educational and quality play for the children living in the shelters. Our volunteers commit to 2 hours per week for at least 6 months.
